JLIAT Still Life Series "Six Types of Silence" Contains an image for burning CDr of 6 types of silence, PCM data set to fixed values. Please read the warning regarding potential damage to Hi Fi systems.

The Still Life series contain pieces which manipulate PCM data at the binary level, because of this MP3 files are not possible, therefore users need to download the zip file, unpack and burn a CDr. Further details of the piece are also found in the Zip file.

The “orchestra” is now replaced with samples from Iraq of the on going war – AK47s and M16s replacing the violins and violas – and artillery and guided munitions the wood wind and brass. The percussion is replaced by a ‘drone’ the desert sky and distant military aircraft.

A piece in three movements parodying the music of the enlightenment – introduction – slow middle movement - final resolution (or not) in the third movement. Each movement was improvised using a Yamaha master keyboard an Akai sampler and Yamaha effects processor at a ‘concert’ performance in Norwich 6/11/04.
